Note form the curator:

“I’m Speaking: The Language of Art”

First and foremost, I want to thank All She Makes and Svitlana especially for inviting me to serve as a guest curator. This was one of the most difficult jurying processes I’ve done as the quality of the work submitted was impressive across the board. For this reason, I’m also incredibly grateful to all of the artists who chose to share their work with me. It was a pleasure to be introduced to many new to me painters, sculptors, printmakers, photographers, digital artists, and more, and the important artwork that you’re creating.

As both an avid writer and reader, I’m fascinated by language and how we use it to communicate. While I didn’t begin this jurying process with a theme in mind, in considering the collective work of the 33 selected artists, I believe language is the common thread that ties them together. Several artists include text directly in their work to convey an idea, some utilize a specific medium as a means of expressing their message, and for others, the subject or use of color is the foundation of their visual language. When looking at art, I am often most drawn to craftsmanship, detail, and technique. In this case, however, what I truly wanted was to discover and experience each individual artist’s voice - and I did.

Especially because of the mission of All She Makes to serve as a platform elevating the visibility of womxn artists, I felt this theme was both fitting and timely. These womxn artists deserve to be seen and heard. Vulnerable, poetic, insightful, poignant, and honest. I hope you both look and listen carefully because it’s very likely you’ll be inspired by or resonate with what they have to say.
